Introduction

Ready to take your classical singing to the next level? MCM’S Classical Singing 2 is designed for participants who have completed Singing 1 or similar. Located at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in Southbank, this music short course will enable you to build on existing knowledge and skills.

Guided by industry professionals and practicing artists, you will participate in group and individual work to maximise your enjoyment of singing.

This classical music short course will explore:

  • Classical singing technique
  • Voice physiology
  • Breathing
  • Air support
  • Voice projection
  • Consistent vocal production and tone
  • Vocal range
  • Posture
  • Self-confidence

This course is a great opportunity to learn from the best, collaborate with fellow singers and build on your existing singing skills.

Our dedicated artists, practicing educators and industry professionals who will be guiding you include:

David Butler Baritone who is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts (Classical Voice) and is director of the David Butler Studio in Melbourne, Australia. He has extensive performance and coaching experience with stage and performance credits include creating the role of “Frou” in the Australian premiere season of indigenous children’s opera Laugh Out Loud, “Police Commissioner Frank” in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, understudying the role of “Le Dancaire” in Bizet’s Carmen and performed as solo bass for Faure’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle, Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas and King Arthur. David Butler Studio has also produced various concerts, events and touring productions including a 2014 national tour of Elaborate Lives, hosting New York based opera director Chuck Hudson, and most recently a comedy fundraising event for the Victorian AIDS Council.

Completion of Classical Singing 1 or equivalent is recommended.  Music reading ability is useful, but not essential.
This course is suitable for 17 + years of age.
