Lionel Gell Foundation Scholarship

Introduction

The Lionel Gell Foundation Scholarships are available to current second year students at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, who are Australian citizens, and will be entering third year in 2019 in the disciplines listed below. Scholarships are awarded on the following basis:

  • Merit and financial need, where applicable
  • To support the final year (third year) of study for undergraduate students
  • To provide funds to assist with the cost of fees and living expenses, to be paid following a successful enrolment check at HECS census date 31 March 2019.

Value

The total value of scholarships offered will be $100,000.

$10,000 awarded to each recipient from:

  • Classical music
  • Interactive Composition ( alternates with BMus Composition)
  • Dance 
  • Drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture and spatial practice (preferably figurative)
  • Film & television
  • Jazz and Improvisation
  • Music theatre
  • Painting (figurative preferred)
  • Production
  • Theatre/drama

Open and closing dates

Applications are closed for 2018 and will reopen in July 2019.  Applicants can expect to receive an outcome by the end of October.  You are strongly encouraged to also complete a separate for a Financial Need Application (link is included in the online application for this scholarship) as this will enable you to be considered for central funding that is offered by the wider University. 

Criteria and eligibility

In 2018, this scholarship is open for award annually to all second year students of the above disciplines at the Faculty, who will be entering third year in 2019.

Selection process

Applications will be assessed by the criteria above, in addition to student's previous results attained and financial need. The Dean, on the recommendation of the relevant Head of School, will approve the recipients.

Additional requirements

To accept this scholarship, successful recipients are required to write a letter of thanks and provide an artistic biography for the donors or trustees. On occasion recipients will be contacted to provide a progress report.

How to apply

This application has 2 separate steps. To be considered both steps must be completed by the application closing date. Please allow enough time to complete both.

Step 1 Scholarship Application

Refer to the Open and Closing Dates section above for the application link.The link will only be visible during the application period. The application will require personal information, including course and year level, and some questions addressing the selection criteria listed above. You will be required to attach some documents, such as your CV and academic transcript.

Step 2 Student Financial Assistance Application

To assist with the assessment your application you are required to submit an online Student Financial Assistance Application by the application closing date. If you already have submitted a Student Financial Assistance Application in the last six months you do not need to apply again but you can update and re-submit your details before the closing date.
