Dorian Le Gallienne Award

Introduction

The Dorian Le Galliene Composition Award is provided as a commission for Victorian composers for the creation of a chamber work.

Value

The value of the award for the commissioned musical work is approximately $1200.

Open and closing dates

Applications for this scholarship are closed.  This is a biennial award and will open in odd years. This award will be next available for application in July 2017.

Criteria and eligibility

This scholarship is open to any composer resident in Victoria.

Selection process

Applications submitted by the closing date will be considered by the Dorian Le Gallienne Award Panel consisting of  composition academics from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.

The Dean, on the recommendation of the selection committee, will approve the recipient.

Additional requirements/information

As a condition of the award the successful candidate must agree

  • to submit to the selection committee within eighteen months of the announcement of the grant of the award a musical work of a serious nature ('the commissioned work'). The selection committee may, at its discretion, extend this period;
  • to permit The University of Melbourne from time to time to borrow and to perform the commissioned work in public or otherwise without payment of any fee.

Applications will be assessed by a selection committee and should include:

  • a list of works. 
  • an overview of commissions, publications and performances. 
  • a score and matching recording of ONE composition written in the last three years.
