Meet the Orchestra pre-concert event

In preparation for its 2018 Hong Kong tour, the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform at Hamer Hall at the Arts Centre Melbourne on April 21. Join students and staff from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music for a special pre-concert reception for secondary school music students and music teachers. This event will feature a pre-concert talk and give you the opportunity to meet with conductor Richard Davis, as well as Conservatorium staff and current students.

12–13 and 19 May 2018
Under the baton of conductor Kevin Cameron and Ingrid Martin, and with tutorial guidance from Melbourne Conservatorium of Music performance staff, be part of Victoria’s first All-State Band. Rehearse from 12–13 May at the Conservatorium’s Southbank campus, and perform at the Melbourne Recital Centre as part of the Conservatorium Wind Symphony Day on Saturday 19 May alongside Conservatorium students. This is a wonderful opportunity to play with other young wind, brass and percussion players from all over Australia.
The All-State Band program is open to applicants from years 7–12, with a minimum standard of AMEB Grade 5. 70 Students will be selected on the basis of audition. Instruments included are: flute, oboe, bassoon, Bb clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion.

Conservatorium Audition Preparation Workshop

This all-day workshop is designed for Melbourne’s outstanding young string, wind, brass, and percussion players. Dedicated to helping VCE musicians prepare for their upcoming tertiary auditions, the day will comprise group warm-ups, instrument-specific masterclasses taken by the Conservatorium’s own performance staff, a “behind-the-scenes” session on what an audition panel looks and listens for, tips on how to deliver your peak performance under pressure, and an exploration of the many different forms a modern career in music can take.
Selected students will be invited to perform in their instrument’s masterclass with a Conservatorium accompanist.Register your interest
